How to remove kidney stones naturally

The following videos discuss some measures or home remedies on how to dissolve and get rid of kidney stones naturally.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmfUl-nv2T4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4HJpunHl2g

I noted that the first video recommends saltpeter or baking soda, turmeric powder, lemon juice and mineral water (I learnt from some articles and commenters that discourage sugar, hence I didn't mention sugar here). I also noted that this medicine is an ancient Indian remedy, and it is recommended for one to take the medicine for two days and then make the medicine again to take for 10 days.

I learnt from the second video that other than drinking enough water daily, it may help to drink water with lemon juice and/or apple cider vinegar. I googled and found this article that shares a similar view on the effectiveness of apple cider vinegar, as well as baking soda, in working in tandem to prevent and/or remove any kidney stones.

"Baking soda with apple cider vinegar is a best natural remedy for removing and dissolving kidney stones, Baking soda is also a very potent cure for kidney stones as it alkalizes the body quickly and removes acid.
Apple cider vinegar enhances the digestive process and the production of HCL due to its alkalinizing effect while in the body. Apple cider vinegar could be used to cure small kidney stones, and is also effective in preventing new kidney stones from forming."
Another article says:
"Preventing kidney stones is sometimes as simple as drinking your ACV tonic each day. A simple tonic can be prepared by mixing a couple of tablespoons of ACV in a cup of water. You can add honey to make it taste better.
If you're interested in using apple cider vinegar kidney stones remedy,it is important that you don't use it without diluting it. Usually, the recommended rate of ACV and water is 1:10. "
Interestingly, this article recommends black tea and green tea as well, other than apple cider vinegar. It says "Studies show that black and green tea reduce the chances of developing kidney stones."

http://www.blessedmaineherbs.com/hearthealth.html

I have read the article on brain nourishing herbs you shared with me earlier, and I find it informative with regard to the various herbs that are restorative, emotionally supportive and nerve-calming, such as oatstraw, rose hips, lavender, chamomile, rosemary, garlic, angelica, lemon balm, St Johns' wort, motherwort and skullcap.
I have also googled some of these herbs just now, and it is interesting to note from this article below that oatstraw's calming qualities not only strengthen nerves but also encourage a restful night's sleep.

"The somewhat controversial German Commission E stated in an October 1987 publication that oat straw could be used as a nervine herb. The German government commissioned oat straw extract as an effective herbal remedy for anxiety and stress. This is most likely due to the high Vitamin B complex content contained within the herb. Oat straw's calming qualities strengthens nerves and encourages a restful night's sleep."

I also found a couple of articles below that say skullcap can be used to treat insomnia, besides anixety symptoms, as mentioned below.
"4) Skullcap: Another herb from the mint family, skullcap combines well with valerian root to synergistically reduce stress, decrease nervous tension, fight insomnia, and fight anxiety symptoms. When made into a tea or tincture, skullcap can be taken throughout the day to combat stress and promote restfulness, even in the midst of irritating or stressful situations."

"(NaturalNews) Scullcap is a traditional herb that can be taken internally to treat nervousness, irritability, insomnia, and neuralgia. Scullcap has a sedating effect and is also able to calm spasms, reduce fever, stimulate the kidneys, and also has cleansing effects. Scullcap is very effective for treating anxiety and tension headaches as well and the Chinese consider it a powerful remedy that is used to calm the mind and also to prepare for meditation."

Anxiety and food

I learnt from this article that possible reasons for anxiety after eating includes physical sensations from food, such as light-headedness, heart palpitations and indigestion; something within the gut activated by the food; acid reflux; and so on. I remember a few times I experienced mild heart palpitations after eating a full meal of oatmeal for breakfast in the morning, and I think it was probably due to the carbohydrates, sugar and sodium as mentioned in the article. (Oatmeal happens to be my favourite dish as it is tasty and healthy, and I would eat it once a week on average, usually on a weekend morning.) I would then sit or lie down for about an hour or so and wait for the food to digest and I usually feel better after that. I have been avoiding coffee or tea or other beverages that contain caffeine, so nowadays I don't experience palpitations often, unlike in the past, thankfully.

On a similar note, I was googling about natural remedies for anxiety caused by the gut after eating, and came across some related articles on this topic - here's sharing a couple of them with you too, which may be useful as a reference or reminder.

"The gut is home to about 1,000 trillion bacteria. The gut also contains around 100 million nerve cells (neurons), more than in either the spinal cord or the peripheral nervous system. This multitude of neurons in the enteric nervous system enables us to "feel" the inner world of our gut and its contents.
Neurons in the gut also use serotonin to signal back to the brain - and 95% of all serotonin in the body is in the gut. About 90 percent of the fibers in the primary visceral nerve, the vagus, carry information from the gut to the brain.

Generally when people think of "gut feelings," they are thinking about instinctive-like reactions such as the "butterflies" or "hollow feelings" one may get due to fear, bad news or an upcoming daunting task. Now it is apparent that other serious conditions may originate at least partially in the gut. Maintaining a healthy digestive system, including a healthy intestinal flora mix, could be a key in helping to prevent and control such conditions."

Learn more: http://www.naturalnews.com/032508_anxiety_gut_feeling.html#ixzz2tdNa8kLO
"When you first start re-introducing good bacteria in your gut through eating more cultured, fermented foods and taking a therapeutic grade probiotic, you’ll probably notice what’s called “die-off” symptoms. Headaches, dizziness, fever, nausea, and other mild cold-like symptoms are all natural parts of experiencing die-off. Basically, as your newly introduced good bacteria start out-competing the bad bacteria already present in your system, the bad bacteria start dying off. When they die off, they produce toxins. Normally, your body is able to eliminate these toxins without you experiencing any symptoms. However, when a radical shift in gut flora takes place, the bad bacteria die off in such large quantities that your body can’t effectively eliminate the toxins created in the die-off. So, you’ll experience the die-off effects, also known as a Herxheimer Reaction.

Don’t worry! The die-off symptoms won’t last long at all, and on the other side of them you’ll be feeling better than ever. And, if this new study is any indication (which I believe it is), you’ll have happier and more balanced moods, too."

Managing arthritis naturally

I was googling about back pain arthritis, and I came across this video in which Mike Adams gave some useful tips on managing arthritis (if we happen to have this condition). http://tv.naturalnews.com/v.asp?v=f50daecda6b6ed1910c1ed5c40d1ca64

According to him, unlike cars, the joints in our body do not wear out with use over time. On the contrary, our body needs regular motion to increase muscle strength and bone joint mobility, so it is important for us to find a balance between exercise (such as yoga) and over-using the joints. In terms of diet, we can continue to avoid foods that are not designed for human natural consumption, including foods that we are allergic to, fried foods, GM wheat etc, to avoid or minimse inflammation in the body. We can also remember to drink adequate water to prevent dehydration and possible inflammation in the body.

I find this article useful in its suggestion of 21 natural remedies to relieve/treat arthritis back pain, which includes massage therapy, low impact activities, encouraging lumbar support (using pillows and cushions), moving regularly, not over-exercising, and so on. In my workplace, I use a cushion to support my lower back when sitting in my office chair, which I think helps prevent back pain. You could try that too, if you haven't done so.

http://painkickers.com/arthritis-natural-remedies/

This related website also suggests some arthritis natural remedies, especially for back pain, such as bathing with warm water with soothing oils to relax tight muscles.

Natural remedies and prevention methods for flu symptoms

MANUKA HONEY

I was caught in the rain on my way home yesterday afternoon - though I was carrying the umbrella, the heavy rain and strong wind caused me to be slightly soaked by the time I reached home. I had runny nose, though there was no fever or body ache. I took a teaspoon of manuka honey at dinner time, and this morning when I woke up, my nose is fine. So you could consider getting a small jar of manuka honey from a health store too.
http://voices.yahoo.com/manuka-honey-as-natural-cold-flu-remedy-7373654.html?cat=68
"It is no secret that honey helps to soothe the throat and ease the effects of certain illnesses during the cold and flu season. However, one type of honey is being used more successfully than ordinary honey. It has been discovered that Manuka Honey from New Zealand contains healing properties not found in other types of honey, making it extremely effective in treating a wide spectrum of health conditions
Manuka Honey's famed antibacterial properties are now being used in hospitals to ward off antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria that cause potentially life threatening conditions such as MRSA and VRE. In addition to its impressive antibacterial activity, studies have also revealed Manuka Honey's antiviral properties which make it effective in treating cold and flu symptoms.
...
For cold and flu symptoms, it is recommended to take one teaspoon of Manuka Honey, 3-4 times per day. It is also important to note that because Manuka Honey is an all-natural ingredient, it has been found to cause no negative side effects whatsoever when used for medicinal purposes. Manuka Honey could very well possibly be one of the single most healthiest things you could eat."

Natural Cold and Flu Remedy
"Manuka Honey is effective in treating, and minimizing the effects of the flu and the common cold. Soothes sore throats too."
I would usually take 1 teaspoon of manuka honey daily. It not only boosts immune system, but also speeds up healing. For example, my runny nose cleared overnight after taking 1 teaspoon of manuka honey, as mentioned earlier. Recently, it relieved me of sore throat within a day too.

On a similar note, this article suggests mixing honey with garlic to make garlic tea (for cold, cough or flu), or mixing honey with lemon (for sore throat) - these suggestions are for your consideration too. http://www.naturalnews.com/035323_home_remedies_colds_coughs.html

MISO SOUP

Miso soup is good as a natural remedy for flu symptoms too, as it boosts immune system.
(NaturalNews) Miso is a delicious fermented food that has been eaten in China and Japan for many centuries. Today it is a favorite of health minded people in the West because of its many anti-aging benefits. Miso and other fermented foods and drinks help build up the inner ecosystem and assure the digestive tract is amply supplied with beneficial bacteria. These bacteria help digest, synthesize, and assimilate nutrients so necessary for good health and anti-aging. They also strengthen the immune system, keeping it at the ready to fight infection and cancer.

GINGER

This website also recommends ginger, among other herbs, to combat flu.
http://www.naturalnews.com/034851_flu_herbal_remedies_cures.html
Fresh ginger root (zingiber officinale) is a warming botanical that has been used as a medicine in Asian, Indian, and Arabic herbal traditions since ancient times (http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/ginger-000246.htm).

Used for the treatment of digestive problems, stomach upset and nausea for more than 2,000 years, ginger has long been a popular natural remedy for a variety of ailments. A powerful anti-inflammatory, ginger has also been widely used for generations to help treat the common cold, flu-like symptoms, headaches and painful menstrual periods.

The warming nature of the root helps to produce sweating and thus helps to release pathogens. Ginger also helps to strengthen the immunity of weaker individuals who sweat without the relief of symptoms. (http://www.naturalnews.com/030318_cinnamon_colds.html)

A great herbal tea can be made for those trying to recover from a cold or flu by simmering a couple of cinnamon sticks and sliced fresh ginger in water for at least 20 minutes. It can also be taken in high-dose supplement form to aid the immune system in warding off and killing the flu virus.

WAYS TO BOOST IMMUNE SYSTEM TO PREVENT FLUS, COUGHS AND COLDS

This article summarises some suggested measures to boost the immune system and prevent flus, coughs and colds. http://www.naturalnews.com/028562_immune_system_colds.html
  • Include fresh, organic vegetables such as broccoli, tomatoes, chicory, cabbage, garlic, mushrooms and spinach in the diet as often as possible to boost the immune system.
  • Fruits to include would be lemons, grapefruit, oranges, bananas and dark colored fruit such as blueberries, black cherries, blackberries, black currants and black grapes.
  • Spicing up meals with ginger, cinnamon, cumin, oregano and cayenne will help to build the immune system in order to fight off colds and can even be taken at the onset of a cold to reduce the effects.
  • Drinking freshly squeezed lemon juice or tea helps to restore the body's pH balance. An imbalance of alkalinity creates a condition favorable to the growth of bacteria, yeast and unwanted organisms which thrive in a more acidic environment.
  • Drink plenty of pure water each day to flush the body of toxins. Drinking green tea, or Rooibos tea (African redbush tea) will promote overall good health.
  • Get enough sleep each night - research indicates that sleep deprivation can adversely affect the body's ability to fight infections.
  • Exercise regularly* - moderate, consistent exercise can lead to substantial benefits in immune system health in the long-term.
  • Control stress - Stress can raise cortisol levels and weaken the body's immune system, making it more susceptible to colds and flu.

(*Note: Do not over-exert yourself if you exercise. If you have a fever, it is better to get sufficient rest and wait for the fever to subside before attempting any strenuous exercise.)

If you happen to be travelling outside these days via public transport, remember to wash your hands when you return home or before eating meals as germs/bacteria/virus may be contracted from certain surfaces such as handle bars on public buses, subway trains, etc. I am reminding myself to do so too as I would start to have runny nose once in a while when I did not wash my hands after travelling on a bus and before eating a meal.

An interesting cancer quote

"If cancer specialists were to admit publicly that chemotherapy is of limited usefulness and is often dangerous, the public might demand a radical change in direction—possibly toward unorthodox and nontoxic methods, and toward cancer prevention. ...The use of chemotherapy is even advocated by those members of the establishment who realize how ineffective and dangerous it can be." - Ralph W. Moss, author, The Cancer Industry
Yes, like what Ralph Moss said, even cancer specialists are aware of how ineffective and chemotherapy can be in treating cancer. I remember one doctor shared in his interview with Dr Mercola that only a few cases of cancer may be successfully treated with chemo but the majority of cases do not respond well to chemo, hence that's where natural remedies come into the picture, such as eating anti-cancer super foods such as turmeric, soursops, mushrooms and so on, getting more oxygen intake and Vitamin D, etc.
"Yes, there are few cancers that respond to chemo, but there are very few. For a hundred different types of cancer, maybe four or five respond well to any kind of chemo. The vast majority doesn’t respond well. And believe me: after 23 years of doing this, they don't know how much money they make.

You know, when they start out, there’s at least some idealism. Even in the most cynical doctor, there was some idealism when went into medicine. And it’s very difficult. I love coming to work – I don’t care what the AMA, the NCI think – and I love coming to work to see the patients getting well. There’s nothing better than that."
Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez (from "Dr Nicholas Gonzalez on Steve Jobs")
On finding a balance between eastern/holistic/naturopathic medicine and western/allopathic medicine:
"The healing professions are divided today between alternative, holistic therapies which are most often not covered by mainstream insurance companies, and conventional western medicine, which is hashed into various specialties, focusing on
dispensing drugs and surgery rather than examining the total person. I personally advocate a blending and revamping of the two approaches, which to my mind represent feminine and masculine approaches: the holistic treatments being primarily feminine, and conventional western medicine being focused on aspects of the masculine, such as logical reasoning and action over reflection. Offering one’s health to the open arms of social media is an attempt to engage society, globally, into a revolution of our health care systems world-wide. People want change, want to be treated as individuals, and want to be responsible for their own choices regarding their emotional and physical bodies."

Natural remedies for eye stye

According to this website http://naturalsociety.com/home-remedies-for-styes/#ixzz26v0OadkQ
"An eye stye is a result of a bacterial infection around the eye area. This condition can manifest itself in what looks like a small boil or pimple on the eyelids. Since this is a bacterial infection, it can be itchy and painful, but thankfully numerous home remedies for styes do exist."

It appears that a number of health websites suggest using warm compress as one of the main ways to treat stye.
"Clean the area with warm water. Try using a Q-tip or a cotton pad after soaking it in warm water, then clean the eye area. Cleaning will help unclog the area where the stye is, accelerating the healing process.
Warm compress. Apply a warm compress on the area for a few minutes at least 4-5 times a day. This will help reduce the swelling and redness associated with styes."
These two websites suggest using tea bag as a convenient and effective warm compress.
http://www.wikihow.com/Cure-a-Stye
http://voices.yahoo.com/four-natural-cures-eye-styes-678891.html

This website suggests using chamomile as a warm compress as it has anti-inflammatory effects. http://www.livestrong.com/article/95664-herbal-remedies-stye-infection/

I also learnt that aloe vera can also be used to treat styes, as mentioned in the wikihow website above.

There were a few times my eyes felt sore and tired in the past, and I learnt to rest my eyes more often, besides ensuring eye hygiene and using eye drops at times (though I also discovered not to use eye drops for long periods of time, as it can cause dryness of eyes, so I think natural treatments and preventions are still the best solutions in the long run).

The good news is that stye will go away on its own, and meanwhile, we can take care of it by using warm compress, and keeping our eyes clean, as mentioned above.

Treating heartburn naturally

WHAT IS HEARTBURN?

According to this website http://www.naturalnews.com/019756_heartburn_antacids.html#ixzz25ygGrYJi
"Heartburn occurs when foods mix with acid to form a liquid that rises into the esophagus, causing chest pain or a burning sensation in the stomach."
Heartburn is also known as acid reflux, or GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease).

HOW TO TREAT HEARTBURN NATURALLY

The following websites recommended some foods that help treat and/or prevent heartburn and aid digestion, including apple cider vinegar, ginger, probiotics and aloe vera juice.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a great natural remedy not only because it is cheap and easily available in supermarkets, but it is also effective in treating heartburn without any side effect.
http://www.naturalnews.com/037114_foods_happy_belly.html

"Apple cider vinegar is regarded as an excellent digestive aid by many alternative practitioners and nutritionists, but not so much by MDs and mainstream dieticians.

Use an apple cider vinegar that has not been pasteurized or filtered for best results. Before each meal, one or two tablespoons downed in a half glass of water can be beneficial. Water with meals should be room temperature for optimum digestion."
http://www.naturalnews.com/035720_acid_reflux_natural_remedies_heartburn.html

"Dr. Group recommends organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar, a tablespoon in a little bit of water, to eliminate heartburn. This seems counterintuitive in that apple cider vinegar increases stomach acid to aid digestion before meals. But there are many testimonials claiming it works."
http://www.naturalnews.com/031428_heartburn_ginger.html

"One of the most highly recommended acid reflux remedies is apple cider vinegar. Sip a tablespoon of the unfiltered, unpasteurized variety in 8 ounces of water during meals. Why does this work? There are two theories. One is that many people actually have insufficient stomach acid. In this case, the LES (which is pH sensitive) may open when it shouldn't allow stomach acid up into the esophagus. Acidity in the vinegar communicates to the LES to stay shut keeping stomach acid where it belongs. An alternative theory is that the vinegar dilutes stomach acid somewhat (since it is less acidic), mitigating reflux symptoms but not enough to impair digestion.

In addition to directly affecting digestion, apple cider vinegar provides an array of vitamins and trace minerals and promotes a more alkaline environment in the body while it helps destroy harmful bacteria. The result is better health including improved digestion."
 Ginger
http://www.naturalnews.com/031428_heartburn_ginger.html

"Other folk traditions rely on ginger for acid reflux since it helps calm stomach acid and relax the muscles of the esophagus. Try sipping a tea made with fresh ginger root and a pinch of cinnamon as a restful way to relieve GERD symptoms."
Aloe Vera Juice
"The king of natural GI tract and stomach disorders is Aloe vera juice. Aloe vera juice needs to be shopped wisely. The cheap adulterated ones with preservatives or pasteurized stuff won't cut it. Get only pure, whole unpasteurized aloe vera juice. Yes it's pricier, but worth it.

Stomach ulcer sufferers swear by it. There have been many, many reports of Celiac disease and Crohn's disease sufferers curing themselves with aloe vera juice, as well as some experiencing irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

With a disease as intense as Celiac, Crohn's or IBS, it takes several days to a few weeks of daily use to get results."
"Aloe vera cures ulcers, IBS, Crohn's disease and Celiac disease Polysaccharides in the aloe vera plant have curative effects on numerous digestive disorders. The Internet is a storehouse of information and testimonials about aloe vera curing IBS, ulcers, Crohn's disease and other disorders of the digestive tract. This is one of the best-known applications of aloe vera gel.
Taking aloe certainly isn't a magic bullet cure, of course. It won't reverse your disease after drinking one glass of aloe vera gel. It needs to be used regularly. Most people report positive results in 3 - 30 days, depending on the condition.

Aloe vera ends acid reflux disease
Acid reflux isn't really a disease. The drug companies just call it that to convince everyone that they need to take medications to ease the symptoms. But in reality, all you probably need is aloe vera. Drink aloe vera gel on a regular basis, and your heartburn symptoms will usually vanish within a few days. Of course, it would also help if you'd stop eating fried foods and processed foods."
Probiotics
"Increasing probiotics is always a good idea. Homemade milk or water kefirs, and foods such as miso and homemade sauerkraut are potent and economical probiotic foods. Less economical but conveniently accessible probiotic supplements are also available."

• helps body absorb nutrients (opposite action of soda) in first 4 to 6 hours, before gastrointestinal acids reach them.
• helps expel food within 24 hours, before it starts becoming a toxin in your system, affecting your immunity.
• aids with lactose intolerance, helping intestinal microbes produce vitamins (very important for people with IBS and Crohn's disease).
Avoid Antacids or Acid Blocking Medications Where Possible
.
On another note, as I have learnt the past couple of years researching on heartburn, the antacids or acid-blocking medications prescribed by medical doctors usually have side effects, and may only provide temporary relief, and may worsen the condition in the long run.
"I go on to explain to the patient that, while their medication may be working temporarily, the damage that it's causing to their body can be extremely dangerous over the long term. Stomach acid plays an important role in both digestion and our overall health and by blocking its production we are essentially starving the body of life sustaining nutrients."
Practise Good Eating Habits Regularly

So, treating heartburn with natural remedies are highly recommended. Waiting for 1-2 hours after eating a meal before lying down to take a nap or sleep is important too. When I lay down too soon after dinner late at night, I would feel a slight burning sensation in my throat when I belched and the partially digested food is regurgitated from my stomach before I swallowed back the food. I would remind myself to elevate my pillow and waited at least half an hour more before lying down to sleep, so as to avoid any heartburn in future.
"So, what is the first resort in heartburn treatment? Aim to prevent it in the first place, and for that, a change in eating habits is a good place to start. Many foods have a reputation for causing heartburn, including onions, garlic, hot and spicy foods, fatty or greasy foods, fried foods and highly acidic foods, like tomatoes and citrus. Chocolate and coffee are also common culprits. In addition, the way you eat is sometimes just as important as what you eat. People who eat especially quickly, who lay down after a big meal or who simply eat too much, are often more prone to heartburn. When you eat too much too fast, without chewing well, the stomach must produce more acid to break down food, creating problems for you down the line. Therefore, in addition to paying attention to the types of foods you eat, and avoiding those that trigger heartburn, you must also be aware of portion size and how quickly you eat,"
This website on natural remedies summarises three simple steps to get rid of heartburn and GERD forever:
http://chriskresser.com/get-rid-of-heartburn-and-gerd-forever-in-three-simple-steps
  1. Reduce factors that promote bacterial overgrowth and low stomach acid. (such as avoiding artificial sweeteners such as fructose)
  2. Replace stomach acid, enzymes and nutrients that aid digestion and are necessary for health. (such as adding apple cider vinegar to water, drinking lemon juice, etc)
  3. Restore beneficial bacteria and a healthy mucosal lining in the gut. (such as taking probiotics)

Natural remedies for liver hemangioma

Based on what I have learnt so far from various health articles, what can be done for liver hemangioma is to keep the liver functioning at its optimal condition so that it remains benign and hopefully disappear by itself over time, as mentioned in some cases.

As suggested by the Liver Doctor and Natural News websites, the important thing is to have a strong functioning immune system, which comes from having a strong functioning liver by taking excess workload off the liver through:
(1) customised liver diet
(2) good night sleep.

(1) Customised liver diet
In summary, the liver diet would include beets, raw vegetable juices, tofu (natural bean curd), miso soup, bokchoy (chinese cabbage), fresh fruit, vegetable salad, and drinking two litres of water (about 8 glasses) daily.

The diet will also exclude margarines, deep fried and fatty foods, limiting chicken and turkey (which may contain artificial growth hormones, antibiotics and steriods), overly processed food and processed sugar and artificial sweeteners.

(2) Good night sleep
As for good night sleep, the Natural News website recommends sleeping from 11pm to 7am (about 8 hours), as follows:

"Overnight from 11 pm until 3 am the energy is strongest in the gall bladder and liver. These organs cleanse the blood and control sleep."
